Tom ( Bass )
Bak(
Rim Stroke )
Pelang( Snap )
You will strike the rim of the drum by snapping your finger.
You should be comfortable to use any finger for this stroke.
For left hand there are two versions of positioning the wrist
while performing this stroke. In Ostad Tehrani's version, your
finger should be perpendicular to the rim. In Mr. Rajabi's version, your wrist is a
little tilted so that when you snap with your third finger an
almost 45 degree angle will be formed. In both versions make
sure that you keep your hand straight on the drum.

Riz ( Roll )
There are many different riz. The two most popular ones are
9 finger riz and 2 finger riz (third finger riz).
9 Finger Riz
Right hand will strike the drum only using the wrist
with thumb first then 4th,3rd,2nd and first
finger.
The left hand will be lifted from the wrist and will
strike the skin with the 4th finger first and then
3rd,2nd and first finger.

parts of the skin while striking with your right hand.

Eshareh ( Decoration )
This is a decoration or beautifier strike or note that is
played before the main stroke itself normally the main stroke is
tom or bak. It should be played really quickly so that it
doesn't change the main strike's duration.
2 Finger Eshareh
The left hand will strike the skin with the 2nd
finger first then the first finger will snap lightly
from the top of it. All these actions happen very
quickly.

2 Hand Eshareh
Exact stroke as 9 finger riz. You have to quickly
play the right hand first then the left hand and finally
the main stroke in such way that the main stroke's
duration is not reduced |
